First Women comprises a unique collection of 100 portraits capturing women in the UK who were “first” in their field of achievement. The portraits by photographer Anita Corbin provide inspiration and insight for a new generation of women seeking an understanding of their own roles in a rapidly changing world in which equality is still an issue. The full collection will be revealed in 2018 to mark 100 years of women’s suffrage.
I am a little bit excited. Ssshhhh #Sussexhour trended tonight, very quietly whoop!! sshhh This is networking Twitter style. If you are a bit unsure about networking its a great way to talk to perfect strangers from your armchair. Some might even be neighbours and the little businesses up the road you sometimes use. Its all very friendly.
Today, we’re bringing you Part II of our wonderful Inspirational Women features and we’re super glad to have the brilliant Keeley Harris of Discover Vintage sharing her business history, secrets & tips! I’ve always been a great admirer of Keeley’s various business and she is definitely an inspiration to us women in the vintage world! I loved reading her answers to our questions, and hope you take inspiration from it too!
It’s the season for summer fairs, it is also the season for Christmas plans and every week tweets on #Sussexhour and #Kenthour send us rushing for our mental diaries. However, we all know that within the shake of a Morrisman’s stick or a carol singer’s tin, we will have forgotten the details.
We are therefore pleased to announce the launch of a dedicated #Sussexhour and #Kenthour calendar. The events shown on the calendar will be a mixture of business and leisure events, reflecting the diversity of the #Sussexhour and #Kenthour Twitter networking community. An ever increasing number of tweeters joining in with this hashtagged hour will ensure that events on the calendar are seen by a growing number of people across Sussex, Kent and beyond. In July over 900k followers of our Sussex tweeters could have seen the calendar.

Still not sure what it is all about? If you have a Twitter account type #Sussexhour in the Twitter search box, it will take you to a dedicated page of tweets that are using the Sussexhour hashtag. Many of the people tweeting represent small to medium sized businesses in Sussex who are looking for local engagement while at the same time raising awareness for their own products and services. Having said that they are, by and large, a friendly, cheerful crew with tea and cake figuring high amongst conversation topics.
If you want to keep up with events in Sussex either go to the calendar and bookmark that, or bookmark this article. You can also search this blog at a later date by entering ‘Sussexhour Events Calendar’ in the blog search box.
As part of I am not Dead, a centenary celebration of modern art godfather Marcel Duchamp’s time in the UK, Syzygy and Unique have taken a collaborative role in an inventive mass participation digital art event taking place in Herne Bay Kent.
At sunset on Friday 9th August, the only day in the year when the tide, sun and moon are in the right alignment, hundreds of people will walk precisely 1000 meters along the edge of the water with giant sonar-guided lights sticks in an attempt to mark where the water meets the sand with a wall of light.
Inspired by Duchamp’s genre defining piece, 3 Standard Stoppages and continuing his exploration of the pataphysical, Human Tide is an amplification of the original idea. Where Duchamp dropped 3, meter long pieces of string and preserved the lines they made, forever capturing the chance of their random waves, Human Tide will preserve 3 lines made by the tide, precisely a thousand times longer than his strings on film, forever.
Using a special camera set up developed by James Cameron, called a Prism Rig, the light trail left by the Human Tide walkers will be filmed as both a time lapse and moving long exposure at the same time. The result will be a first in film making – a giant drawing of light over a fast moving film of the sun setting and the tide coming in. Until now this has been completely impossible to do because it defies the laws of film making.
Syzygy and Unique will be realising a live data API of the event as it unfolds and are issuing an open invite to photographers and digital artists to join them in Herne Bay on the 9th to capture and create their own version of Human Tide.

I always come over all unnecessary whenever I see something incredible born from Art on the Street, but the headstrong perseverance of 124 Studios literally makes me swell with unconfined joy and, dare I say it, pride that we count them as friends.
124 Studios is a collaboration of seven artists who fell together through a combination of working at the same place (Bovilles Art Shop, the address of which is 124 High Street, Maidenhead, hence the '124') and/or taking part in Art on the Street.
